Rappelz is the name of the game, and a fine game it is.  With many features and a rich environment, it’s definitely the MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) to top them all.  I would probably rate it to be better than the likes of World of Warcraft, had I the money to pay for the monthly service.  But alas, I don’t, so this is one reason why Rappelz makes an A+ in my book.

Game play seems to be fairly easy, as you use the mouse for almost everything.  The most the keyboard is used for is chatting and shortcuts to menu items, but if you want to walk, just point and click to the area you want to talk to.  You’re somewhat limited as to where you can move, but then again, do you know someone who can walk up a steep hill/cliff without rock climbing equipment?

Attacking your enemy is a fairly easy chore, and you have a very large selection of weapons to choose from.  To attack you can either double click, or hold down Left Ctrl and click.  The latter of the two is a good idea when you gain the aid of a creature, which is another nice feature to the game.

Much like some other familiar games or cartoons, you can capture and use creatures.  But unlike most of the familiar, you do this by using spells and cards.  Just lull the creature with a spell and capture with the card (which, by the way, is a harder process than it sounds).  The creature makes for a very nice aid in the long run, especially if you don’t like partnering up with other people.  As far as I know, though, you can only summon one creature at a time.

As for the look of the game, if you’re using an older computer, you won’t be able to see the game’s real potential.  Though you can still get a good feel for what the environment is like, a newer computer would be better.  With something a bit newer, you get to experience the game the way it’s meant to be.  The rolling hills, thick forests, festering swamps, vast plains, treacherous mountains…  I think you get the idea.

There is only one issue I have with this game, and it’s this:  the client software needed to play the game.  If you read this and want to jump in and play, be warned that you’ll be in for a fairly long wait.  The client software itself is a whopping 1.8GB.  Yes, you read that right, 1.8GB.  But don’t let that discourage you from downloading and playing, though, as the wait is well worth it.

So, grab a cup of tea, sit back, put your feet up, and just relax.  As for the game itself, it’s amazing that it’s free with the amount of work that went into making it.  Though there are some special items that you can obtain by paying for it, but is not necessary to play the game.  So, download, enjoy, and be ready to immerse in a great adventure!
